The ex-Barcelona chief says he did not discuss the former Real Madrid coach in a meeting with his agent, insisting he wanted to stick to the “Johan Cruyff philosophy”
Laporta has been critical of current Barca president Sandro Rosell and met with super-agent Mendes, who counts Mourinho among his many high-profile clients, after confirming his intention to stand against his successor.
However, Laporta, who oversaw the rebuilding of Barcelona through managers such as Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola, told Spanish newspaper L’Esportiu that he did not discuss Mourinho with the agent.
“My style of coaching is with the [Johan] Cruyff philosophy,” Laporte said.
“Mourinho is a great professional and I respect him, but I did not mention him with Jorge Mendes, a person with whom I have a good friendship for many years.
“From time to time, we talk about things.”
Despite previously working at the Blaugrana, as a former coach of Madrid, Mourinho is hugely unpopular at Camp Nou.
The Portuguese, and current Chelsea boss, endured numerous run ins with Barca during his time at the Bernabeu, including poking the Catalan club’s then assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye.
